Is your house a total mess? Well don't stress, help is here! Whether your friend is coming over for a visit or you're tired of your house looking unorganized, read on to find out how to clean your home within 1 to 2 hours.
Clean up the living room first. It's the main room of the house, and you want it to look inviting.
- Clean up the mess on the couch. Did you toss your jacket on the armchair when you came home yesterday? Hang it up on the coat rack! Simply put papers in a drawer or your desk and recycle any loose papers.
- Clean up the coffee table. Put away the magazines and clear any dishes that have been sitting out.
- Tidy up the entertainment center, put away the TV Guide, and put the videos and DVDs where they belong.
- Sweep the carpet quickly.
Kitchen This is where you probably spend most of your time cooking and eating. You want it to be clean.
- Clean the counter tops and toss away any trash.
- Put away all the food. Throw away any crumbs.
- Put all other items where they belong.
- Wipe off the counter and kitchen table with a sponge. Use a regular cleanser such as Windex or 409. If you don't have any cleansers, wipe off any hard surfaces with a wet cloth or sponge.
- Clean the sink. If there are unwashed dishes in the sink, rinse off the dishes and put them in the dishwasher. Wash the dishes by hand if you don't have a dishwasher. Put them on the dish rack to dry afterwards.
Bathrooms are not fun to clean, but if you quickly clean up the bathrooms, you will be pleased with the outcome.
- Throw away any garbage left in the bathroom into the wastebasket.
- Wipe off the sink area with a wet sponge.
- Clean the tub and shower giving each a quick scrub.
- Wipe off any dirty windows. After that, you can clean the mirror if you wish.
- Spray air freshener to make the room smell nice.
- Repeat process with other bathrooms, if needed.
Bedroom Don't worry about other bedrooms in the house, just your bedroom.
- First, make your bed. This will take a lot of weight off your shoulders. To make your bed fast, simply pull up the sheets and blankets and place the pillows where they belong.
- Pick up any garbage on the floor. Throw it in the waste basket.
- Put all knick-knacks on your bookshelf or dresser. The same goes with small electronics.
- Separate clothing into three different piles, dirty clothes, clean clothes, and warm clothes. Fold up the clean clothes and put them in your dresser. Throw the dirty clothes in the hamper, or a laundry basket. Hang up any coats, jackets, sweaters, etc. in your closet or the coat rack.
- Clean up your desk. Put all papers in one of the drawers or in a file cabinet for now. You can go through the papers later. Put all pencils and pens in a container or pencil box. Maybe you drank a cup of coffee at your desk, or you left dishes there. Put them in the sink and wash them briefly.
- Put books on the bookshelf.
- Put other items where they belong.
Treat yourself with a reward or something you like. You have done a great job!
Tips
- If you want to really clean up fast, shove anything you don't want at the moment in the closet. You can go through it later.
- If a laundry basket is sitting there in the middle of the room, put it in the closet for now, or if want, you can throw all the dirty laundry in the washing machine and wash it. Be sure to put your clothes in the dryer afterwards if you want them to come out clean.
- If you don't have air fresheners, use scented candles!
- If cleaning the house is a really boring task for you, turn the TV or radio on. Just make sure it's not too distracting.
Warnings
- Never mix products that contain bleach with products that contain ammonia, these two chemicals combined together can cause dangerous fumes.
- Don't spend too much time on cleaning. If a guest is coming over, you want to pay attention to them, not on what your house looks like. Just be sure to save time for your guest to come over after your done cleaning.
- Don't go overboared on the cleaning, although you want your house to be clean, you also want the person to know that your not too much of a neat freak.
